Role

I worked independently on the computational design of the new installation, upon the foundation established by the studio and a previous computational design team, under Anaisa Franco’s artistic and fabrication direction. My role involved shape development, making adjustments, and optimizing an existing Grasshopper algorithm that had been developed by a computational design team for another project at the studio. I communicated with the engineer to modify the design, ensuring it met structural constraints. Additionally, I was responsible for preparing the shop documents and files for 3D printing, cutting tubes, welding base tubes, coloring tubes, and concrete work. I also produced the presentation documents for the project.

Spiral Loop is an interactive public artwork designed as a playful climbing structure for children by Anaisa Franco Studio. It serves as an alternative to a previous project by the studio, Trinity Loop, offering a fresh design approach while maintaining the same spirit of engagement and interaction.

Design & Fabrication:
For this project, I refined a previous algorithm to establish a streamlined design-to-fabrication workflow, focusing on form-finding through parametric design. The process resulted in 215 unique 3D-printed components, which were cast in metal in Barcelona and transported to Ireland. Additionally, 340 modular steel tubes were precisely cut and finished with a durable powder-coated paint.
