soRAL, stands as a testament to the collective’s commitment to bridging the realms of rationalized energy circularity. Nestled within Tehran’s Saman Residential Complex, the project artfully addresses the challenges posed by the city’s semi-arid climate. Inspired by the intricate beauty of corals, soRAL embodies a dynamic, fluid architectural form, harmonizing cutting-edge solar technology with its surroundings. This design not only harnesses renewable energy to power the structure but also tackles Tehran’s dry climate by ingeniously incorporating a water-spraying system.

Design Concept and Technology

The design concept draws inspiration from the intricate beauty of corals and translates it into a
dynamic, fluid architectural form suitable for the modern urban context. It utilizes cutting-edge
solar technology to harvest sunlight throughout the day, harnessing renewable energy to power
the structure and provide lighting during the night. In addition to its energy-efficient features, the
design also addresses the challenge of Tehran’s dry climate. Recognizing the need for increased
humidity, the structure incorporates a system for spraying water, helping to elevate moisture levels
and improve the local micro-climate.

Daylight analysis and optimization

We employed a voxel-based aggregation approach to arrange building components strategically, followed by a rigorous solar analysis. Our primary goal was to optimize the building’s design to maximize solar energy absorption.

Machine Learning Application

In the subsequent phase, we translated the voxel-based model into a pixel-based format, a crucial step in preparing the design for integration with the Pix2Pix algorithm. The height of each voxel can be recognized by the color gradient on the context are. Then, based on our predictive model, the voxelized version of our design is produces based on our design boundary, refining our design parameters.
